Artist Statement
The knowledge that I am part of the earth has been the primary grounding force in my life and is what has driven me to make work. I want to honor the systems and cycles of the earth through artmaking. I draw on my research in areas such as ecofeminism, the value of soil, and ecological wisdom.
This body of work reflects elements of the connection between humanity and the Earth with a strong focus on natural materials. I make work in a range of mediums including weaving with natural fibers dyed with plant-based dyes, handmade paints from collected materials, and ceramics. I hold that the materials of art creation are those of the earth, rearranged and processed by human hands, and I aim to make this clear through the use of materials that remain close to their original earthly form. Each piece uses abstraction or symbology to explore the patterns and movement of the Earth.
