Artist Statement

From Lighthearted childhood to the suppressive maturity of adulthood these are the roles we are expected to take on, but is that how we fit here? The images portrayed in my work can all be manipulated in some way- The dolls, piñata, play dough, swing and chess pieces are all moved by some outer force, other than themselves. When people hear the word manipulation they think of deceit and corruption but I think of it like the ebb and flow of waves carving out the shoreline, carving out our lives ahead. Life hands us situations that we can choose to take on willing or fight. These choices make us who we are constantly evolving into. We build on our experiences with the renewed advances of the flow and learn from our mistakes of the ebb. When all is said and done we will have grown into what the tide of life has brought to us.
