Artist Statement

My exhibition is the completed series of paintings depicting my own navigation through otherness as a result of my identity in relation to growing up in the south. I grew up somewhere beautiful, But from a very young age my perception of the place I lived in was being distorted by the bigotry of the community. As a queer person of color, It was quickly that I realized the space I have known my entire life, wasn’t mine to have at all. I was chronically out of place. Not being able to understand this at a young age created a different path of early adolescence.
